Once again I must begin with how I've let this blog collect virtual dust. I just got back from my trip to Taiwan and am on my general surgery rotation. I can't believe I just have one more rotation before my intern year ends! I'm very excited about that, but I'm also scared to death about starting my anesthesiology years. Sometimes when I think about it I get palpitations. Actually just last night, I tossed and turned for 3 hours before finally falling asleep thinking about all the stress that is going to come in July. But I made it this far so I just have to take things day by day.
This weekend Angela is away at a leadership retreat at campgrounds 1 hour away while I had my transitional year retreat at Seattle University. My cousin Patty also flew in from LA for a conference and I met her up for happy hour at Palimino's. Excellent thin crust pizza.
Anyways my trip to Taiwan was amazing because of so many meaningful ways. This was my 3rd time in Taiwan but the first time I really got a sense of what it's like with my family there. When I went last time, it was for the Overseas Compatriot Formosa Youth Study Tour aka "Loveboat". It was a good opportunity to your a lot of the country and make a lot of friends, but I still felt like an American with all my English-speaking American friends being directed aimlessly at random cities and temples. However, this time I was able to explore with my dad and immerse myself in Chinese for the longest duration since the days before I learned English! I definitely came home with withdrawals from all the wonderful people and food that I encountered. I hope to make this an annual trip and will make sure my kids have all the opportunities to see the motherland.

My Happy Chinese New Year and Valentines Day
I'm doing a terrible job of updating this blog but life is busy and when it's not busy the last thing I want to do is sit here and type about how busy it is. I guess this blog didn't end up being as amusing as my old Xanga. Maybe I've matured or maybe through the years that I've blogged I learned that maybe I just don't want to share that much anymore. I look back on the Xanga and sometimes I can't believe the things that I wrote about. I must admit I did have to delete some posts awhile back so it's not as personal anymore.
Well I figure some of my old friends are wondering what I'm up to. I've done quite a few rotations since I last blogged, such as dermatology, medicine wards, general surgery, thoracic surgery, pulmomary medicine, and now I'm on vascular surgery. I can't believe I only have a few more months left in my intern year. Next up is ER, neurology, general surgery again, and then end with a bang on medicine wards. My program is pretty sweet.
Enough medicine.
I've had a few vacations since also. So far in my intern year I've gotten to visit San Francisco, Vancouver BC, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Portland pretty frequently. That's the best thing about living on the left coast is that most of my favorite cities are a couple of hours away by plane. Vancouver BC and Portland could be day trips if I really wanted to drive back and forth. So life in Seattle is good. The question is if I will stay here after residency. It all depends on the job outlook and if I want to do a fellowship. I would definitely want to stay on the west coast afterwards regardless but would love a chance to do a fellowship in Boston at one of the Harvard programs. Ok seriously no more medicine talk.
I got a bike so I'm looking forward to cruising the waterfront when the rain stops. I'm giving up snow boarding this season (maybe forever) because my back is jacked up. Kind of depressing but the pain that I went through isn't worth a few runs down the mountain. My next goal is to do my taxes (for the first time) and study for Step 3 to get it done with. I am going to Taiwan in April with my entire family (first time since I was like 6) to visit my grandma and the motherland. Hopefully my brother will be able to visit Seattle beforehand. I'm also hoping to visit Cartegena, Columbia and Maui, Hawaii later this year. Lots of stuff to look forward to!
